Forel-sur-Lucens was a municipality in the Broye-Vully district of the canton of Vaud in Switzerland until December 31, 2016 . On January 1, 2017, Forel-sur-Lucens merged with the former municipalities of Brenles , Chesalles-sur-Moudon , Cremin and Sarzens to form the new municipality of Lucens .

Forel-sur-Lucens is 672  m above sea level. M. , 14 km southwest of the district capital Payerne (air line). The farming village extends on a high plateau in the Molasse hill country between the Mentue and the Broye , in the Vaudois Central Plateau .

The area of ​​the 2.8 km² municipal area covers a section of the hill country between the Mentue in the west and the central Broyetal in the east. The central part of the area is taken up by the Forel plateau. To the south, the municipal soil extends into the left side valleys of the Vallon des Vaux , which are deeply cut into the plateau and which emerge at Lucens into the Broyetal. In the west, the area extends to the Bois d'Amont forest height and reaches here at 765  m above sea level. M. the highest point of Forel-sur-Lucens. In 1997, 5% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 19% for forests and trees and 76% for agriculture.

Forel-sur-Lucens consists of the two districts Forel-Dessous ( 672  m above sea level ) and Forel-Dessus ( 700  m above sea level ) on the eastern slope of the Bois d'Amont as well as several individual farms. Neighboring municipalities of Forel-sur-Lucens are Lucens and Villars-le-Comte in the canton of Vaud, and Prévondavaux , Cheiry and Surpierre in the canton of Friborg .

With 152 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2015) Forel-sur-Lucens is one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. 93.4% of the residents are French-speaking, 5.1% German-speaking and 0.7% English-speaking (as of 2000). Forel-sur-Lucens had a population of 233 in 1850 and 195 in 1900. After that, a further decrease to 119 inhabitants was recorded by 1980 due to strong emigration; since then the population has increased again slightly.

economy

Forel-sur-Lucens was a predominantly agricultural village until the second half of the 20th century . Even today, arable farming , fruit growing and cattle breeding play an important role in the income structure of the population. Further jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. Due to the steady decrease in population, the school was closed in 1968. With the construction of a few single-family houses in the last few decades, the village has also developed into a residential community. Some workers are therefore commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

The community is located off the major thoroughfares, near a connecting road from Lucens to Combremont-le-Grand . The bus route from Moudon to Lucens serves the Forel-sur-Lucens Dessous stop.

history

The first written mention of the place took place in 1239 under the name Forest . Later the names Fores (1342) and Forex (1354) appeared.

Since the Middle Ages , Forel-sur-Lucens formed its own small lordship, which was under the sovereignty of the Counts of Savoy . Over the years the village has seen numerous changes of ownership. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Forel-sur-Lucens came under the administration of the Moudon bailiffs . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , the village belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic , which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Moudon district.

Attractions

On the site of the former chapel, the new school building with a bell tower was built in 1888. The new village chapel was built in 1951.
