Until the merger to form Valbroye on July 1, 2011, Seigneux was a municipality in the Broye-Vully district of the canton of Vaud in Switzerland .

geography

Seigneux is 570  m above sea level. M. , twelve kilometers south-southwest of the district capital Payerne (air line). The street row village extends on a terrace on the eastern slope of the Broye valley , in the eastern Vaud Central Plateau .

The area of the 3.7 km² former municipal area covers a section of the hill country between the central Broyetal and the Glânetal . The municipal soil extends from the eastern edge of the roughly one kilometer wide flat valley of the Broye eastwards up the slope of Seigneux, which is bordered in the north by the valley of the Trémeule and in the south by that of the Ruisseau de Seigneux , both cut deep into the molasse layers . The Champs Maillet plateau above the village is also part of Seigneux. At the municipal boundary to Cerniaz was 680  m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Seigneux. South of the valley of the Ruisseau de Seigneux, the municipality also included the Grands Bois forest . In 1997, 5% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 32% for forests and trees and 63% for agriculture.

The municipality of Seigneux included the hamlet of Treize-Cantons ( 495  m above sea level ) on both sides of the Ruisseau de Seigneux on the eastern edge of the Broye valley and several individual farms. Neighboring communities of Seigneux were Henniez , Cerniaz , Villars-Bramard , Dompierre , Curtilles and Lucens in the canton of Vaud and Villeneuve in the canton of Friborg .

population

With 279 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2010) Seigneux was one of the small communities in the canton of Vaud. 94.2% of the residents are French-speaking, 2.2% Portuguese-speaking and 1.8% German-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Seigneux was 284 in 1900. After the population had decreased to 177 people by 1960 due to strong emigration, a significant increase in population has been recorded since then.

economy

Until the 20th century, Seigneux was a predominantly agricultural village. Today agriculture and animal husbandry have only a subordinate role in the income structure of the population. A sawmill had existed in the Ruisseau de Seigneux valley since the 18th century. In the hamlet of Treize-Cantons on the main road Payerne-Moudon, an industrial park with a mechanical engineering company has developed over the last few decades. Some of the buildings of Sources Minérales Henniez SA are also located in the municipality.

traffic

Seigneux is very well developed in terms of transport. It is about 1 km away from the relatively busy main road 1 from Lausanne via Payerne to Bern , which was the main axis from Bern to western Switzerland before the motorway was built. Seigneux itself is not connected to public transport. In the valley below the village, however, there is the Henniez stop of the Payerne-Moudon railway line, which was inaugurated on August 25, 1876.

history

The first written mention of the place took place in 1221 under the name Sinius . Later the names Villa Siniez versus Suprapetram (1316), Sinuez and Signuouz , Signiodo (1453), Seigneus (1668) and Seignoux (1861) appeared. The place name goes back to the Roman surname Sinius .

Seigneux has belonged to the Bishop of Lausanne since the Middle Ages , with it being under the jurisdiction of the Castellan of Lucens. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Moudon . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , Seigneux belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Payerne district.

Attractions

In the center of Seigneux there are some characteristic farmhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries.
