Until December 31, 2012, Neyruz-sur-Moudon was a municipality in the Gros-de-Vaud district of the canton of Vaud in Switzerland . Until the end of 1952 the municipality was officially called Neyruz (VD) , but was then renamed to Neyruz in the canton of Friborg for better differentiation .

On January 1, 2013, it merged with the municipalities of Chanéaz , Chapelle-sur-Moudon , Correvon , Denezy , Martherenges , Peyres-Possens , Saint-Cierges and Thierrens to form the new municipality of Montanaire .

Neyruz-sur-Moudon is 765  m above sea level. M. , 23 kilometers northeast of the canton capital Lausanne (linear distance ). The street row village extends on the edge of a plateau between the valleys of the Lembe in the west and the Cerjaule in the east, in the Molasse hill country of the northern Vaud Central Plateau .

The area of ​​the 3.5 km² former municipal area covers a section of the high plateau between the Mentue and the central Broyetal . The eastern border runs along the Cerjaule stream . To the west, the former municipality extends over the slope of Neyruz-sur-Moudon to the adjacent high plateau Champ de la Croix and Les Esserts , on which at 802  m above sea level. M. the highest point of the former municipality is reached. In the northwest, the area extends into the headwaters of the Lembe with the Le Praduit forest . In 1997, 4% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 26% for forests and woodlands and 70% for agriculture.

With 119 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2012), Neyruz-sur-Moudon is one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. 97.5% of the residents are French-speaking, 1.7% German-speaking and 0.8% speak Albanian (as of 2000). The population of Neyruz-sur-Moudon was still 215 in 1900. After that, a decrease of almost 50% to 113 inhabitants was recorded by 1970 due to strong emigration; since then the population has remained stable and has only increased slightly in recent years.

economy

Until the second half of the 20th century, Neyruz-sur-Moudon was predominantly an agricultural village. Even today, arable farming , fruit growing and cattle breeding play an important role in the income structure of the population. Some other jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. With the construction of single-family houses in recent decades, the village has also developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

The former municipality is located off the major thoroughfares on a connecting road from Moudon to Denezy . Neyruz-sur-Moudon is connected to the public transport network through a post bus course that runs from Moudon to Thierrens .

history

The first written mention of the place took place in 1168 under the name Nuirul . Later the names Nyroul (1261) and Neyriouz (1359) appeared. The place name goes back to the Latin word nucariolum (walnut grove ).

Since the middle of the 14th century Neyruz-sur-Moudon was under the Savoyard Kastlanei Moudon. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Moudon Bailiwick . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , Neyruz-sur-Moudon belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic , which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Moudon district.

Attractions

Only the chapel remains of the Sankt-Antonius-Spital, mentioned in the 14th century. In the village there are some typical farmhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries.
