economy
Etagnières was a predominantly agricultural village until the second half of the 20th century . Today agriculture and animal husbandry have only a marginal importance in the income structure of the population. With the creation of new commercial zones since the 1970s, numerous companies have settled in Etagnières. This includes companies in the body shop and automotive spare parts trade ( Métraux Services ) as well as a company that manufactures agricultural machinery. In the last few decades the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the greater Lausanne area.
traffic
The community has good transport connections. It is located on the main road 5 from Lausanne to Yverdon-les-Bains . The motorway connections Cossonay on the A1 (Lausanne-Yverdon) opened in 1981 and Lausanne-Blécherette on the A9 (Lausanne-Sion) opened in 1974 are each around 6 km from the town center. On June 2, 1874, the Cheseaux-sur-Lausanne - Echallens section of the Chemin de fer Lausanne-Echallens-Bercher (LEB) narrow-gauge railway with a station in Etagnières was put into operation.
history
The municipality of Etagnières was settled very early, which is attested by the remains of a forge and a cemetery from Roman times . The first written mention of the place took place in 1202 under the name Estanneres . Later the names Estaneres (1290), Etanières (1377), Ethagnires (1403) and Estagnyeres (1424) appeared. The place name is derived from the French word tanière (cave, den of a wild animal).
Etagnières belonged to Echallen's rule in the Middle Ages . After the Burgundian Wars , the village came to the Orbe-Echallens Bailiwick in 1476 , which was under the common rule of Bern and Friborg . The fiefdom of Etagnières, which temporarily belonged to the Counts of Gruyères, was sold by them to Bern and Friborg in 1518. Even after the Reformation , the majority of the villagers remained Catholic and the church was used by both denominations. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , Etagnières belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Echallens district. The plan to move the airfield from Lausanne-Blécherette to the plateau west of Etagnières was rejected by the population of the canton of Vaud in 1966.
Attractions
The Saint-Laurent church originally dates from the late Middle Ages. The current nave was built in 1768 and the choir was taken over from the previous building. Inside there is a baroque altar from 1654.
