history

The place is called in 1447 as Gumoens lo Jux , later the name Goumoëns-le-Joux appeared . The origin of Goumoens-le-Jux is a tower mentioned in the 12th century, which over time has been expanded into a castle. After the old Goumoens rule was split into three parts in the 13th century, Goumoens-le-Jux Castle became the seat of a branch of the Goumoens aristocratic family. In 1447 the small domain was integrated into the Goumoens-la-Ville domain through purchase. The castle was burned down by the Confederates in 1475, but was no longer inhabited at that time.

After the Burgundian Wars , Goumoens-le-Jux came to the Orbe-Echallens Bailiwick in 1476 , which was under the common rule of Bern and Friborg . At that time the village was temporarily called Le Craux . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , Goumoens-le-Jux belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Echallens district. From 1897 to 1973 the small community was under cantonal administration.

Attractions

From the former Goumoens-le-Jux castle on a ledge surrounded by talent, only a few moats and ramparts have survived. The municipal administration was housed in a house with a bell tower. Ecclesiastically, Goumoens-le-Jux belongs to the parish of Goumoens-la-Ville .
