Bretigny-sur-Morrens is a municipality in the Gros-de-Vaud district in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland .

geography

Bretigny-sur-Morrens is 721  m above sea level. M. , 8 km north of the canton capital Lausanne (linear distance). The village extends on a high plateau east of the Talent , in the eastern Gros de Vaud , on the north-western edge of the heights of the Jorat , in the Vaudois Central Plateau .

The area of ​​the municipal area of ​​2.9 km² covers a section of the higher Vaud Central Plateau. The community soil is bordered in the west and south by the upper reaches of the Talent, which over time has carved a valley into the molasse layers . In the northeast, the border runs along the Combron , a right tributary of the Talent. The area extends to the east over the plateau of Bretigny and the forest Bois des Cloux up to the height west of Chalet Marin, on the 743  m above sea level. M. the highest point of the municipality is reached. In 1997, 12% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 24% for forests and woodlands and 64% for agriculture.

Bretigny-sur-Morrens includes the housing estate Le Rié ( 702  m above sea level ) on the right slope of the Talent valley, the hamlet of Béthusy ( 715  m above sea level ) on the northern edge of the Bretigny plateau between Talent and Combron and several individual farms. The neighboring communities of Bretigny-sur-Morrens are in the north-east of Boten , in the south-east of Lausanne , in the south of Cugy , in the west of Morren and in the north-west of Assen .

With 841 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), Bretigny-sur-Morrens is one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. 95.0% of the residents are French-speaking, 3.4% German-speaking and 0.5% Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Bretigny-sur-Morrens was 200 in 1850 and 212 in 1900. After the population had decreased to 175 by 1960, a rapid increase in population with a quadrupling of the population within 40 years was observed.

economy

Until the second half of the 20th century, Bretigny-sur-Morrens was predominantly an agricultural village. Today agriculture and animal husbandry have only a subordinate role in the income structure of the population. There used to be a sawmill on Talent. Since the end of the 1980s, new companies have settled in the village, including a metal construction company. In the last few decades the village has developed into a residential community. Most of the employed are therefore commuters who work mainly in the greater Lausanne area .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1224 under the name Britignie . Since the Middle Ages Bretigny-sur-Morrens belonged to the nobles of Bottens, who had received the village as a fief from the lords of Cossonay. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Bretigny-sur-Morrens came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Lausanne . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , the village belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Echallens district.

Attractions

In 1806 the parish hall with a bell tower was built. Bretigny-sur-Morrens does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish of Morrens .
