Eclagnens was a municipality in the Gros-de-Vaud district in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland . On July 1, 2011, she went up in the new Goumoëns parish .

geography

Eclagnens lies at 593  m above sea level. M. , 3.5 km west-northwest of Echallens and 15 km north of the canton capital of Lausanne (as the crow flies). The farming village extends across the Gros de Vaud plateau , east of the Talent River , in the Swiss Central Plateau .

The area of the 2.1 km² former municipality covers a section of the gently undulating plateau des Gros de Vaud, the granary of the canton of Vaud. The western boundary is mostly formed by the winding course of the Talent in a valley slightly sunk into the high plateau. To the east, the municipality extends to the plateau with the hills Les Nâpes (at 608  m above sea level, the highest point of Eclagnens) and Grands Champs ( 605  m above sea level ). In the north the area extends to the valley of the brook Vouda . In 1997, 5% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 14% for forests and woodlands and 81% for agriculture.

Neighboring municipalities of Eclagnens were Goumoens-le-Jux , Goumoens-la-Ville , Saint-Barthélemy and Oulens-sous-Echallens .

population

With 146 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2010) Eclagnens was one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. 100% of the residents state French as their mother tongue (as of 2000). The population of Eclagnens was 147 inhabitants in 1850 and 147 inhabitants in 1900. After the population had decreased to 56 people by 1990, a significant increase in population was recorded again.

economy

Thanks to the fertile soils, Eclagnens still lives from agriculture today , with arable farming and fruit growing predominant. Outside the primary sector there are no jobs in the village. A mill and a sawmill were in operation at Talent from the 17th century until 1973. Due to a few newcomers in recent years, the village has several commuters who work mainly in Echallens .

traffic

Eclagnens is well developed in terms of traffic, although it is located away from the major thoroughfares on a cantonal road from Oulens-sous-Echallens to Goumoens-la-Ville . The La Sarraz motorway junction on the A1 (Lausanne-Yverdon) opened in 1981 is only 2 km from the town center. Eclagnens is connected to the public transport network through a post bus course that runs from Echallens to Chavornay .

history

The first written mention of the place took place in 1219 under the name Claignens . Later the names Clanens (1265), Claniens , Clagnens (1295) and Esclagnens appeared . The place name goes back to the Burgundian personal name Clano and means for the people of the clano .

In the Middle Ages , the Eclagnens fiefdom was divided among several families; In 1285 it came to the Lords of Orbe. Later the village belonged to the de Goumoëns family. After the Burgundy Wars , Eclagnens came to the Orbe-Echallens Bailiwick in 1476 , which was under the common rule of Bern and Friborg . After the collapse of the Ancien Régime , the village belonged to the canton of Léman from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic, which then became part of the canton of Vaud when the mediation constitution came into force . In 1798 it was assigned to the Echallens district.
