Jean-Pierre Cardinal Boyer

Jean-Pierre Boyer (born July 27, 1827 in Paray-le-Monial , † December 16, 1896 in Bourges ) was French Archbishop and Cardinal of the Roman Church .

Career

Boyer attended Autun's seminar . After his ordination on December 23, 1854, he was parish vicar in the diocese of Autun and in the archdiocese of Aix , pastor, secretary of the archbishop and professor of dogmatics and dean of the theological faculty.

Pope Leo XIII. appointed him on June 12, 1878 titular bishop of Evaria and coadjutor of Clermont with the right of succession. The Archbishop of Aix, Théodore-Augustin Forcade M.EP , gave him on 24 August of the same year in the Cathedral of Aix-en-Provence , the episcopal ordination ; Co -consecrators were Marie-Julien Meirieu , Bishop of Digne , and Adolphe-Louis-Albert Perraud , Bishop of Autun. After the death of Louis-Charles Féron , he succeeded him on December 24, 1879 as Bishop of Clermont.

On January 19, 1893 he was appointed Archbishop of Bourges . Leo XIII. accepted Jean-Pierre Boyer in the consistory of November 29, 1895 in the college of cardinals , whereupon he received the titular church Santissima Trinità al Monte Pincio on June 25, 1896 as a cardinal priest .

Cardinal Boyer died in the same year, his body was laid out in Bourges Cathedral and buried there.
