Jean-Pierre Pellegrin (* 1961 ) is the Swiss winemaker of the Domaine Grand'Cour winery in the small Geneva municipality of Peissy . According to Gault Millau , he is one of the best winemakers in Switzerland.

Live and act

Jean-Pierre Pellegrin initially studied archeology and only joined the family winery at the age of 28. After five years of conversion, he put his ambition to no longer deliver the original Gamay and Viognier varieties to the cooperative but to prepare his own wine. He renovated the 700 year old courtyard and cellar and equipped it with barriques and some amphorae (fermenters). Years of experimentation with new grape varieties, expansion of vineyards and individual cellar technology followed. Among the 15  ha own property he can ha to lease over the years another 15 on which he grows about 25 different varieties. Annual production is around 50,000 bottles per year.

While he could no longer talk to his grandfather about his vision of winemaking and the various terroirs of his property, his father says he is an important advisor for him.

Its most important products include the white assemblage Grand'Cour blanc and the red Cuvées P and Grand'Cour made from Pinot Noir . The latter was awarded by the British wine magazine Decanter . Pellegrin also cultivates grape varieties such as Kerner , Auxerrois and Gamaret . Jean-Pierre Pellegrin has the reputation of being both a “wine maker ” ( vigneron artisan ) and a “watchmaker among Swiss winemakers” ( l'horloger parmi les viticulteurs suisses ).
