Jean Bourdichon
Jean Bourdichon (* around 1457 in Tours or in the Bourbonnais ; † 1st half of 1521 there ) was a French painter and illuminator of manuscripts.
Life
Bourdichon was court painter to three sovereigns - the French kings Louis XI. , Charles VIII and Louis XII. , but few of these works have survived. Bourdichon became famous with his book of hours for Anne de Bretagne - a manuscript that he painted in a style reminiscent of Jean Fouquet for the depictions of landscapes . Bourdichon was one of the most important artists of the French early Renaissance and directed the School of Tours. However, its importance lay more in its technical ability than its own creativity.
