Jean-Claude Roché (born May 11, 1931 in Boulogne-Billancourt ) is a French ornithologist and bird song / bioacoustics researcher. He mainly publishes media with bird calls.

Life

Jean C. Roché was born the son of the writer and art collector Henri-Pierre Roché and his lover, the art bookseller Denise Charlotte Henriette Renard (1894–1982). As a child he was interested in insects and read all ten volumes of Jean-Henri Fabre's work Souvenirs Entomologiques .

For decades, Jean Roché used sound recordings to document various bird calls on his travels. This created a sound library with over seven thousand hours of recordings. The Sitelle publishing house, which he founded in 1985 (merged with the Frémeaux et Associés label ), published around 100 records , cassettes and CDs . His first album Oiseaux de Camargue (1958) was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque of the Académie Charles-Cros in the category "Documentation". In 1990 he founded the Center d'Etudes Bioacoustiques Alpin (CEBA) in Banne . In 2010 he separated from his publishing house Sitelle and from CEBA and has been working alone again since then.
