Jean Dalibard

Jean Dalibard (born December 8, 1958 ) is a French physicist .

Life

Dalibard worked with Alain Aspect and Gérard Roger at the Laboratoire Charles Fabry in Orsay . In 1982 they demonstrated together in an experimental test of the EPR effect that Bell's inequalities were violated.

In 1986 he received his doctorate under the supervision of Claude Cohen-Tannoudji on the manipulation of atoms by laser beams. Dalibard works at the CNRS on the investigation of Bose-Einstein condensates and is also a professor at the École polytechnique (Laboratoire Kastler-Brossel).

In addition to the development of methods of laser cooling and atom traps, he deals with Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC), for example the behavior of eddies in rotating BEC. He also deals with low-dimensional many-particle systems such as the Berezinski-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition in atomic gases in two dimensions.

He is a member of the Academy of Sciences in France and since 2011 a full member of the Academia Europaea , since 2018 of the American Philosophical Society , since 2020 of the National Academy of Sciences . In 1992 he received the Prix ​​Mergier-Bourdeix . In 2012 he was awarded the Davisson Germer Prize , in 2000 the Prix ​​Jean Ricard , in 2010 the Prix ​​des trois physiciens and in 2009 the Blaise Pascal Medal . In 2012 he received the Max Born Award .

In 2010 he was visiting scholar at Trinity College , Cambridge. In 1991 he was at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) with William D. Phillips .
