Jean I. (Armagnac)
Jean I (* 1311 ; † May 16, 1373 ) was Count of Armagnac , Count of Fézensac and Rodez .
He was the son of Bernard VI. , Count of Armagnac and Fézensac , and Cécile, heiress of the County of Rodez .
In 1324 he married Reine de Goth († 1325), great niece of Pope Clement V and heiress of Lomagne and Auvillars . The short marriage remained childless. In May 1327 he married Béatrice de Clermont , daughter of Jean de Clermont , Comte de Charolais , who inherited the Charolais. The couple had three children:
- Jean II (* 1330; † 1384), Count of Armagnac etc.
- Jeanne (* 1348; † 1388), ⚭ October 17, 1360 in Carcassonne Jean de Valois, duc de Berry ( House of Valois )
- Marthe († 1378), ⚭ March 6, 1373 in Barcelona John I , King of Aragón (* 1350; † 1395)
He served in Italy under the command of John of Bohemia , King of Bohemia . In Ferrara defeated and captured, he was released in 1330 against an enormous ransom. In 1339 he became captain general of Poitou , Limousin and Saintonge . As governor (lieutenant) of the king in Languedoc from 1338 to 1352, he was one of the most important generals in the fight against Edward von Woodstock , the "Black Prince". On July 28, 1340 he destroyed the Anglo-Flemish army, which was under the command of Roberts III. of Artois stood at the battle of Saint-Omer .
