Jeanne Landry

Jeanne Landry (born May 3, 1922 in Ottawa , † August 4, 2011 in Montreal ) was a Canadian pianist, music teacher and composer.

Landry had his first piano lessons at the age of nine in the convent of the Soeurs Grises de la Croix in Ottawa and from 1934 to 1942 with Irene Miller , a student of Józef Hofmann . From 1942 to 1944 she was a student of Arthur Letondal in Montreal . At the École Vincent-d'Indy she studied piano with Jean Dansereau and music theory with Claude Champagne .

With a Prix ​​d'Europe she went to Paris in 1946, where she studied piano with Yves Nat and harmony and counterpoint with Nadia Boulanger and Noël Gallon . In 1948 she returned to Canada, where she gave concerts and appeared on the CBC radio .

Landry was the companion of the singer Jean-Paul Jeannotte for twenty-five years , with whom she toured Canada and the United States, France, Austria and the USSR, and gave concerts on radio and television. As a duo pianist, she worked with Jean-Marie Beaudet , Josephte Dufresne and Serge Garant . With Dufresne she played the world premiere and a recording of Roger Matton's Concerto , with Garant the Canadian world premiere of Boulez ' Structures (1958).

In 1956 Landry founded the chamber music ensemble Musique de notre temps with Serge Garant, Otto Joachim and François Morel . From 1957 to 1958 she was on a concert tour with the clarinetist Rafael Masella . She also worked as a partner to Fernande Chiocchio , Joseph Rouleau and Jacques Simard . In 1976 she performed with the French flautist Alain Marion at the Orford Art Center . She also worked regularly with the pianist Robert Weisz , with whom she performed Martinů's Concerto for Two Pianos in 1976 .

From 1951 until her retirement in 1983 Landry taught harmony and counterpoint at Laval University , after which she devoted herself primarily to composition. Many piano pieces, two song cycles and a sonata for viola and piano were written. Your organ piece Orah was recorded by Jean-Guy Proulx .
