Jeffrey James Milton "Jeff" Thue (born January 25, 1969 in Regina , Saskatchewan ) is a retired Canadian wrestler . He was silver medalist at the 1992 Olympic Games in free style in the super heavyweight.

Career

As usual in North America, Jeff Thue began wrestling at a high school, and soon became one of the best Canadian young wrestlers in both styles. After high school he attended Simon Fraser University (SFU) and became a member of the Burnaby Montain Wrestling Club in Vancouver .

As a junior he took part in the Junior World Championships (Espoirs) in Vancouver-Burnaby in 1987 and took 4th place in the Greco-Roman style in the heavyweight division behind Tengiz Tedoradse, Soviet Union , Ferenc Takacs, Hungary and Raymond Edfelder , FRG .

During his time at SFU he became NAIA Champion (= Canadian student champion) in 1991, 1992 and 1993. In those years he was also a member of the Canadian national team of freestyle wrestlers and was coached by Jim Miller and Anatoly Beloglasow . This training paid off, because three very successful years on the international wrestling mat followed. In 1991 he was bronze medalist in super heavyweight (at that time up to 130 kg body weight) at the World Championships in Free Style in Varna behind Andreas Schröder , Germany and Gennadi Schilzow , USSR . He also started in the Greco-Roman style and took a good 6th place there.

At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona he only started in free style and won there over Tomasz Kupis, Poland , Park Sung-ha, South Korea , Mahmut Demir , Turkey and Ali Reza Soleimani Karbalayee from Iran . So he faced the US American Bruce Baumgartner in the final , against whom he clearly lost on points. But by winning the Olympic silver medal , he had achieved great success.

In 1993 Jeff Thue was the winner of the Commonwealth Championships in Victoria / Canada in the free style in super heavyweight. Here he left Abdul Majid from Pakistan and Jagadish Singh from India behind.

After that, Jeff Thue ended his wrestling career, although he was only 24 years old. Nothing is known about his further life.
