Taavi Veskimägi

Taavi Veskimägi (born November 20, 1974 in Eidapere, today the rural municipality of Kehtna , Rapla County , Estonia ) is an Estonian politician and businessman. He was Minister of Finance of the Republic of Estonia from 2003 to 2005. He belongs to the conservative party Isamaa ja Res Publica Liit .

Life and politics

Taavi Veskimägi graduated from high school in 1993 in Rapla . He studied civil engineering at the Tallinn University of Technology (TTÜ) until 1995 and administrative science at the Tallinn University of Education from 1995 to 1998 . From 1996 to 2001 he worked in the Estonian Ministry of Finance, then as a consultant in the private sector.

Already in 1994 he became politically active and joined the political group (since 2001 party) Res Publica . In 2001/2002 Veskimägi was Treasurer of Res Publica and quickly rose to leading positions.

With the election victory of his party in spring 2003, Taavi Veskimägi was elected as a member of the Estonian parliament ( Riigikogu ). Veskimägi then held the post of finance minister from October 2003 to April 2005 in the cabinet of his fellow party member Juhan Parts .

After leaving the government, Veskimägi was again active as a member of parliament. a. as Vice-President of the Estonian Parliament (2005/2006). From 2005 Veskimägi was one of the two co-chairs of Isamaa ja Res Publica Liit , which emerged in 2006 from the merger of the two parties Isamaa and Res Publica .

economy

In 2009 Veskimägi left active politics and became managing director of the energy company Elering . It is owned by the Estonian state. He owns the main power lines in the country.

Private life

Taavi Veskimägi lived in a illegitimate partnership with the Estonian MEP Kaja Kallas , the daughter of the former Prime Minister Siim Kallas , until 2014 . The couple has a son.
