Jens-Peter Voss (born September 5, 1953 in Hamburg-Harburg ) is a retired German diplomat and has retired Consul General since 2019 .

biography

After graduating from the Alexander-von-Humboldt-Gymnasium in Hamburg-Harburg in 1972 and training as a reserve officer in the navy (most recently a frigate captain ), he studied business administration at the University of Hamburg from 1975 to 1980 .

Between 1970 and 1981 he held various positions in the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and related organizations: 1972 Hamburg member of the federal coordination committee of the Schüler Union , district chairman of the Junge Union Harburg, deputy spokesman for the delegates' assembly of the Junge Union Hamburg; 1975 to 1981 local chairman of the CDU Harburg-Mitte; 1978 to 1981 member of the Harburg district assembly, spokesman for economy and transport of the CDU parliamentary group.

In 1981 he entered the diplomatic service and after completing his attaché training in 1983, he was employed as a press and cultural officer at the embassy in the capital of Zaïre , Kinshasa. He then worked in the protocol department of the Foreign Office in Bonn from 1986 to 1989 before working as an economic consultant at the embassy in Denmark . After a subsequent function from 1992 to 1997 as head of the trade promotion office at the embassy in the People's Republic of China , he became head of the task force for the introduction of controlling in the Federal Foreign Ministry.

In 2000 he took up his post as economic consultant at the embassy in Italy and was again active in the same function at the embassy in the People's Republic of China between 2003 and 2006. Between 2006 and 2008 he was Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to North Korea .

From November 2008 Jens-Peter Voss was the successor to Hubertus Thoma as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Haiti and was replaced there in July 2012 by Klaus Peter Schick . Since October 2012 he has been Germany's first consul general in the city of Shenyang in the northeast of the People's Republic of China . He left this post on July 28, 2015 and took over the management of the German Consulate General in Edinburgh from Verena Countess von Roedern on July 31, 2015 . He retired on June 30, 2019.

He has been the holder of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany since March 2013 and an honorary citizen of Shenyang since July 23, 2015 .
