Jens Schroth

Jens Schroth (born January 24, 1973 - August 31, 2016 ) was a German dramaturge .

Jens Schroth studied music theory, new media and composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart with Matthias Hermann , Marco Stroppa and Helmut Lachenmann . He was also trained as a composer at the Stuttgart State Opera , among others with Klaus Zehelein .

From 2002 to 2006 he was dramaturge at the Stuttgart State Opera. In 2006 he moved to the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin and since 2010 has been the head dramaturge of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden . He also taught at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe , the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" Berlin and the Universität der Künste Berlin as well as earlier at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart the subjects of analysis of new music, electronic music and composition .

Schroth was particularly committed to contemporary music and contemporary music theater. He worked with Helmut Lachenmann, Salvatore Sciarrino , Wolfgang Rihm , Beat Furrer , Andrea Breth , Claus Guth and Jürgen Flimm . He realized various interdisciplinary works with the sculptor Matthias Kunisch and the architects Peter Ippolito and Elke Banabak .

Schroth died at the age of 43 of complications from cancer diagnosed in autumn 2015.
