Jens Thele

Jens Thele (born December 20, 1967 in Hamburg ) is a German music manager, founder and managing director of the music label Kontor Records . and the digital distributor Kontor New Media. Thele is also a founding member of the German techno band Scooter as well as producer or co-producer and author of various music titles.

Life

Thele was a house DJ in Hamburg clubs and discos such as Trinity and Traxx. At the same time, he took over the branch management of the Hamburg DJ record store Tractor in the early 1990s. In 1992 he switched to sales at the music company Edel Musik , where he founded the house label “Club Tools” and signed artists like Brooklyn Bounce and Celvin Rotane as A&R manager . He also established compilation concepts such as Trance Nation .

Thele got to know HP Baxxter in 1992 in Edel-Vertrieb . They founded the band Scooter and achieved their first commercial success in 1994 with the single Hyper Hyper . Thele still acts as the fourth band member in the background and acts as manager, co-producer and co-author for the act Scooter.

In 1995 Thele switched from Edel Musik to Motor Music , a label of the Polydor record company . There he took u. a. the artists Robert Miles , Nana , DJ Sammy and the Vengaboys as well as the New York dance label Strictly Rhythm under contract.

1997 Thele left Motor Music again to set up his own label, Kontor Records, which he founded in 1996 . The name refers to the house and dance club called Kontor, which Thele had opened in Hamburg the year before. Producers and DJs who played in the Kontor could publish their productions on Kontor Records if there was a chance of success. Since it was founded, Jens Thele established Kontor Records as an internationally successful label for dance and techno music with numerous hits. Since 1998, Kontor Top Of The Clubs has been a dance compilation series.

In 2000 Edel AG became the main shareholder of Kontor Records, the remaining shares belong to u. a. Jens Thele and HP Baxxter. Thele remained managing director of Kontor Records.
