Jerry Adler (born February 4, 1929 in Brooklyn , New York ) is an American theater director and director as well as television and film actor.

Life

Adler was born on February 4, 1929 to Pauline and Philip Adler. His father was the head of the group theater in New York City at the time. Jerry Adler grew up in a Jewish household.

Adler began his theater career in 1951 as a stage manager in musicals such as Of Thee I Sing and My Fair Lady . He was then production manager for productions such as The Apple Tree , Black Comedy / White Lies , Dear World , Coco , 6 Rms Riv Vu , Annie and I Remember Mama . He made his directorial debut in 1974 with the Sammy Cahn Revue Words and Music . In 1976 he directed the revival of My Fair Lady and received a nomination for the Drama Desk Award . He also directed the musical The Little Prince and the Aviator in 1981 .

As a television actor, he is known to a wider audience for his role as Herman "Hesh" Rabkin in The Sopranos (1999–2007).

He previously played roles as Mr. Wicker in Crazy About You (1992–1999) and as Lieutenant Al Teischler in Who's Here The Cop? (1995-1996). Adler had three appearances as Alan Schulman in the 1990-1995 television series Alaska, of all places . His movie roles include In My Sister's Shoes (2005), Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993) and The Reporter (1992).
