Jerry Grossman
Jerry Grossman (born December 15, 1950 in Cambridge / Massachusetts ) is an American cellist .
Grossman studied cello at the Curtis Institute of Music with David Soyer and chamber music with the other members of the Guarneri String Quartet , Arnold Steinhardt , John Dalley and Michael Tree . Further teachers were Harvey Sapiro , Judith Davidoff , Joan Esch and Benjamin Zander . From 1974 to 1976 he was a member of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and from 1984 to 1986 the Chicago Symphony Orchestra . In 1986 he became principal cellist in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra .
He has appeared as a soloist at Carnegie Hall and on tours of the Met Orchestra under James Levine through the United States and Europe. A recording of Richard Strauss ' Don Quixote was the label German Grammophon recorded. He has performed with Ensemble Speculum Musicae and as a guest with the Guarneri , Vermeer and Emerson String Quartet and is a founding member of the Chicago String Quartet and the Chicago Chamber Musicians .
