Jerry "Boogie" McCain (born June 18, 1930 in Gadsden , Alabama , † March 28, 2012 ibid) was an American blues musician on the harmonica .

Life

Jerry McCain was born in Gadsden, Alabama, the youngest of five children in 1930 and began playing the harmonica at the age of five. In 1953 he heard his role model Little Walter when he was performing with his Aces in Gadsden. After different versions of the story, Little Walter introduced him to Diamond Records producer Lillian McMurray or inspired him to write his first song for Diamond Records. He recorded his first single in 1953 for Trumpet Records . Until the 1970s he recorded records regularly, but the big breakthrough was denied him. The recording for Rex Records, She's Tough / Steady, was later covered by the Fabulous Thunderbirds , with their harp player Kim Wilson recreating McCain's harmonica playing.

After years spent with lesser known bands, he signed a recording deal with Ichiban Records. In 2000, McCain released an all-star album starring with Johnnie Johnson , John Primer , Anson Funderburgh , Jimmie Vaughan , Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton ( Double Trouble ). The work of McCain is also on the CD by Rhino Records Blues Masters Volume Four: Harmonica Classics appreciated, where he next Little Walter , Jimmy Reed , Junior Wells , Howlin 'Wolf , Snooky Pryor and George "Harmonica" Smith is represented by a track .

His hometown honors their son with a day of their own at the annual Riverfest, a four-day music event.
