geography

Jerzmanice is located in the Bober-Katzbach Mountains on the Katzbach (Kaczawa) , about five kilometers southwest of Złotoryja .

history

The first settlement finds date from the Neolithic . In 1925 a stone ax was excavated. The early settlement took place after the discovery of copper ores .

Hermsdorf was first mentioned in a document in 1253 as "Hermanstorph". It belonged to the Duchy of Liegnitz , formed in 1248 , with which it fell to the Crown of Bohemia as a fief in 1329 . Hermsdorf appears for the first time in the documents of the diocese of Breslau in 1339. In 1527 the Reformation reached the duchy of Liegnitz. Subsequently, the Hermsdorf church was handed over to the Protestants. The noble families von Bock and von Schindler are documented here in the 16th century . The castle was built in 1541 and a mill in 1599.

In 1675, with the death of the last Duke of Liegnitz, Georg Wilhelm I. Hermsdorf, together with his duchies of Liegnitz, Brieg and Wohlau , fell to the Crown of Bohemia as a completed fief . After the First Silesian War in 1742, it fell to Prussia, along with most of Silesia . The following are documented in Hermsdorf for the year 1789: the castle, two manors, the Protestant church with the rectory, a water mill, a tavern, a forge and 98 houses. During the Napoleonic Wars , the Battle of the Katzbach took place in Hermsdorf and the surrounding area . After the reorganization of Prussia, Hermsdorf belonged to the province of Silesia from 1815 and was incorporated into the Goldberg-Haynau district from 1816 to 1932 , which was merged into the Goldberg district in 1933, with which Hermsdorf remained connected until 1945.

In 1874 the district of Hermsdorf ad Katzbach was established, which consisted of the rural communities Hermsdorf and Taschenhof and the manor districts of the same name. At the same time, Hermsdorf was renamed "Goldbergisch Hermsdorf". In 1931, Hermsdorf ad Katzbach was again introduced as the official place name.

As a result of the Second World War, Hermsdorf fell to Poland in 1945, along with most of Silesia. It was subsequently renamed "Jerzmanice-Zdrój". The German population was largely expelled . Most of the new settlers were displaced from eastern Poland , which had fallen to the Soviet Union .
