Jerzy Paweł Gorgoń (born July 18, 1949 in Zabrze - Mikulczyce ) is a former Polish football player .

The 1.92 m tall blond defender Gorgoń was by his colleagues of the Long called. Because of his football skills, he was one of the most noticeable appearances in Polish football of the 1970s. The trained miner began his career at MGKS Mikulczyce, since 1967 he played for the first division club in his hometown Górnik Zabrze . With this team he won the Polish Cup five times in a row between 1968 and 1972. In 1971 and 1972 he was also Polish champion and made the double. In 1970 he reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup with his team , which they lost, however, 1: 2 against Manchester City . In the same year he also made his debut in the Polish national football team .

He then celebrated his greatest football successes in the white and red national dress. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , with two goals for a 2-1 victory in the preliminary round against the GDR, he played a decisive role in Poland becoming Olympic champion later. The team from Gorgoń played the final against Hungary .

He was also on the field when Poland knocked England out of World Cup qualification with two legendary games in 1973 . He won the bronze medal at the 1974 World Cup in Germany . At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montréal , he won the silver medal after losing 3-1 to the GDR. He completed his international career at the 1978 World Cup in Argentina after 55 international matches. He played a total of 12 international matches at soccer world championships.

He ended his active career from 1980 to 1983 at FC St. Gallen in Switzerland . Here he was also then coach of the youth and reserve team.
