Jerzy Radziwill
Jerzy (George) "Hercules" Radziwiłł ( Lithuanian Jurgis Radvila I Herkulis * 1480 , † April 1541 ) was a Lithuanian aristocrat , officials in the civil service and military commander of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania . He came from the Radziwiłł noble family .
Life
Jerzy was born in 1480 as the son of Mikołaj Radziwiłł and Zofia Anna Monwid . He was an important general in the conflicts between Lithuania and its neighbors in the 16th century. He took part in the wars of Lithuania against the Crimean Khanate , the Teutonic Order and the Grand Duchy of Moscow .
He put the Crimean Tatars to flight several times in the battles near Kiev in 1511 and 1527 and in 1512 in the battle near Wiśniowiec in Volhynia . During the Muscovite-Lithuanian War 1512–1522 , he successfully led the Lithuanian cavalry in the Battle of Orsha in 1514. In the equestrian war of 1519–1521 he fought against the Teutonic Order in Warmia during a campaign with luck .
In his capacity as Grand Hetman of Lithuania, he was the commander-in-chief of the Lithuanian army in the Muscovite-Lithuanian War 1534-1537 , which ended victoriously for Lithuania with the conquest of part of Severien by taking the cities of Homel and Starodub .
His military, warlike career earned him the nickname Hercules , which was probably an allusion to the mythical Greek hero of the ancient world, Heracles .

Radziwiłł was from 1510 grand cupbearer of Lithuania, 1511–1514 voivode of Kiev ( Voivodeship Kiew ), from 1514 Starost of Grodno , 1521–1531 Feldhetman of Lithuania , from 1522 castellan of Troki , from 1527 castellan of Vilna , from 1528 court marshal of Lithuania and from 1531 Grand Hetman of Lithuania.

Radziwiłł was married to Barbara Kiszka for the first time . Around 1515 he entered into a marriage with Barbara Koła , from which several children arose:
- Mikołaj (1512–1584), called "the Red", Lithuanian prince, statesman and general
- Anna Elżbieta (1518–1556), first married to Prince Symeon Holszański Dubrowicki , second to Piotr Kiszka
- Barbara (1523–1551), by marriage to Sigismund II. August , from 1550 Queen of Poland and Grand Duchess of Lithuania
