Jesús Ricardo Iglesias (born February 22, 1922 in Pergamino ; † July 11, 2005 there ) was an Argentine racing driver .
Career
Iglesias drove his Chevrolet specialty road races in his home country in the 1950s . He celebrated some successes and earned a reputation as one of the best touring car drivers in South America. This good reputation earned him a Gordini factory car for the 1955 Argentina Grand Prix in Buenos Aires. After 38 laps the race was over after a clutch damage.
After his foray into Formula 1 , Iglesias returned to touring car races in 1956. He finished second in Rafaelo's 500 mile race that same year. Two years later he had a collision with Stirling Moss on the first lap of the Formula Libre race in Buenos Aires and made it onto the front pages of daily newspapers around the world. Just after the start, Iglesias braked much too late on the wet road and crashed into the rear of Moss. The Argentine's Cooper rose a few meters in the air, dragged Moss' car with it and both vehicles flew over the barrier into a group of photographers. Miraculously, no one was seriously injured in the accident.
