Yevgeny Velichko (born April 2, 1987 in Shchuchinsk , Zelinograd Oblast , Kazakh SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Kazakh cross-country skier .

Career

Welitschko has been participating in competitions of the Fédération Internationale de Ski since 2007 . He ran his first World Cup race in November 2008 in Gällivare , which he finished in 21st place with the relay. He finished the Tour de Ski 2008/09 in 38th place overall. He got his first World Cup points. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 he achieved 68th place in the sprint, 47th place over 15 km classic and tenth place with the relay. At the Tour de Ski 2009/10 he reached 30th place in the overall ranking. His best placings at his first Olympic participation in 2010 in Vancouver were 28th place in the 30 km ski race and 11th place with the relay. In February 2011 he won gold with the relay at the Winter Asian Games . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 2011 , he finished 40th over 15 km classic and 13th place with the relay. In December 2011, in La Clusaz , he took 20th place in the 15 km mass start race, his best individual World Cup result to date. He finished the Tour de Ski 2011/12 and 2012/13 in 32nd and 56th place overall. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme , he came in 50th place over 15 km freestyle, 34th place in the skiathlon and 13th place with the relay. In January 2014 he became the Kazakh champion in the 15 km mass start race. His best results at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi were 31st place in the skiathlon and 13th place in the relay.

In January 2015 Velichko won silver with the relay at the 2015 Winter Universiade in Štrbské Pleso . The following month he finished 51st in the skiathlon and 13th place in the relay at the 2015 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 2017 , he came 42nd in the skiathlon and ninth in the relay. His best placings at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang were 39th in the 50km mass start race and eighth in the relay. The following year he finished 42nd place in the skiathlon at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld in Tyrol , 37th place in the 50 km mass start race and seventh place in the relay.
