biography

Yevgeny Leonov graduated from the Moscow theater studio in 1947 and was then engaged at the Moscow Stanislavski Theater , where he gave Creon in Jean Anouilh's Antigone and played Sancho Panza in the musical The Man from La Mancha . Over time, he turned to the comic role subject in particular. From 1968 he appeared in the Mayakovsky Theater , from 1972 in the Lenkom Theater .

Leonov's film career began in 1949 with Stschastliwy reis . His good-natured and friendly appearance together with the pronounced talent for comedies secured Leonov wide recognition. His work in the dubbing of cartoons , especially as Winnie-the-Pooh (1969–1972), enjoyed just as much audience affection . Even if Leonov did not play particularly positive people, they still aroused a certain sympathy in the audience. For his role in Vladimir Fetin's A Story from the Don (1965), he received the Acting Award at the All Union Festival in 1966 . In the early 1970s he was particularly successful as an opportunistic projectionist in Alexander Mitta's lamp, mein Stern, shine (1970), as a mechanic Ivan in Belorussischer Bahnhof (1971) by Andrei Smirnow and in a double role in the comedy Gentlemen der Success (1972) by Alexander Sery and in Georgi Danelijas Let Afonja Do It (1975). He has also played in television films since the 1970s. He gave his voice to the title character in the cartoon classic Winni Puch (1969–1972).

Yevgeny Leonov was honored as People's Artist of the USSR (1978), winner of the State Prize of the USSR (1976) and the State Prize of the Russian Federation (1992). He died of thrombosis on January 29, 1994 and was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery. His son Andrei Leonow is also an actor.
