The 34-year-old Waliko Misandari works as a pilot for a local Georgian airline. After meeting an old enemy - the man who seduced and abandoned his sister - Mimino ransacked his apartment and is arrested. Ruben does not leave his new friend and tries to help the proud aviator. Despite being acquitted, Mimino turns 35 in prison - a formal rejection of Mimino's training at the flight school. When he is about to travel home, Mimino meets the influential official Volokhov, who helps him achieve his dream.

Mimino becomes a long-distance pilot of the USSR and now also flies the Tu-144 supersonic jet . But Waliko feels uncomfortable in big cities and longs for his homeland, the Georgian town of Telavi . This is where he finally returns: to his beloved work, his friends and relatives.

Cut scenes

  • 8 scenes were cut from the film.
  • In one of the cut out scenes, Mimino and Rubik enter the hotel elevator and meet two Japanese people who look like twins. When the Japanese see the people entering, they say in Japanese: "How alike these Russians look!"
  • Scenes with the village blacksmith and the finale of the film have also been removed from the film (the new finale was only made when editing ).
