Vakhtang Kikabidze
Wachtang Kikabidze ( Georgian ვახტანგ კიკაბიძე , Russian Вахтанг Константинович Кикабидзе , scientific transliteration Vachtang Konstantinovič Kikabidze ; born July 19, 1938 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian film actor, singer and director. The comedian is particularly popular in the states of the former Soviet Union .
Life
He was born the son of a princess from the house of Bagration-Dawitashvili . From 1956 to 1959 he studied at the State University of Tbilisi and from 1961 to 1963 at the State Institute for Foreign Languages Tbilisi .
Since 1959 he has been part of the ensemble of the Tbilisi Philharmonic . In 1967 he became the singer and drummer of the Georgian beat band Orera, which was enormously popular in the Soviet Union . He performed with her at the world exhibition in Montreal , where he was voted the third best drummer in the world.
Since 1966 he also worked as an actor. In 1973 the state film studio Grusia-Film signed him as an actor. He was convincing as a comedian in the films Ne gorjui ( Eng . Don't be sad , in the cinema as Das Gastmahl der Rose , 1969), Me, gamomdsiebeli ( Eng . I am a detective , 1971) and "TASS upolnomotschen zajawit ..." ( German "TASS announces ..." , 1984).
He became internationally known in the film Mimino ( 1977 ), in which he played the lead role, a helicopter pilot from the Georgian province who wants to become a flight captain in Moscow. The theme song he sang became a hit in the Soviet Union. He won first prize at the Festival of Humor and Satire in Gabrovo , Bulgaria .
In the Soviet Union he was punished with a two-year professional ban, not for violating censorship and propaganda, but for refusing to act in a film with a minister's mistress.
In 2000 he made his last film, Fortuna . Since then he has toured Georgia, Western Europe and North America with his songs ; In 2008 he publicly vowed never to set foot on Russian soil again in protest against the " Russian blitzkrieg " against Georgia.
He is married and has two children.
Awards
He was awarded the State Prize of the USSR , the Russian Knight's Cross of St. Constantine the Great, the Georgian Order of Vakhtang Gorgassali. On the "Ploschtschad Swjosd" (German "Platz der Stars") in Moscow a star was placed in the sidewalk in his honor.
On the occasion of his 70th birthday, Kikabidze was to be awarded the Order of Friendship of the Russian Federation . However, Kikabidze refused to do so against the backdrop of the invasion of Russian troops in Georgia during the war for South Ossetia .
