Wachtang Kikabidze ( Georgian ვახტანგ კიკაბიძე , Russian Вахтанг Константинович Кикабидзе , scientific transliteration Vachtang Konstantinovič Kikabidze ; born July 19, 1938 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian film actor, singer and director. The comedian is particularly popular in the states of the former Soviet Union .

Life

He was born the son of a princess from the house of Bagration-Dawitashvili . From 1956 to 1959 he studied at the State University of Tbilisi and from 1961 to 1963 at the State Institute for Foreign Languages ​​Tbilisi .

Since 1959 he has been part of the ensemble of the Tbilisi Philharmonic . In 1967 he became the singer and drummer of the Georgian beat band Orera, which was enormously popular in the Soviet Union . He performed with her at the world exhibition in Montreal , where he was voted the third best drummer in the world.

Since 1966 he also worked as an actor. In 1973 the state film studio Grusia-Film signed him as an actor. He was convincing as a comedian in the films Ne gorjui ( Eng . He is married and has two children.

Awards

He was awarded the State Prize of the USSR , the Russian Knight's Cross of St. Constantine the Great, the Georgian Order of Vakhtang Gorgassali. On the "Ploschtschad Swjosd" (German "Platz der Stars") in Moscow a star was placed in the sidewalk in his honor.

On the occasion of his 70th birthday, Kikabidze was to be awarded the Order of Friendship of the Russian Federation . However, Kikabidze refused to do so against the backdrop of the invasion of Russian troops in Georgia during the war for South Ossetia .
