Perikles Monioudis (born September 8, 1966 in Glarus , Switzerland) is a Swiss writer and journalist.

Life

Perikles Monioudis grew up bilingually (German and Greek) as the son of Greek parents who immigrated to Switzerland from the cosmopolitan Alexandria two years before his birth . He graduated from all schools in Glarus , made in 1987 at the district school Glarus the Matura and graduated in 1993 with a degree in sociology , political science and the general public law at the University of Zurich from ( lic.phil.I ). In 1991 he founded the group of authors "Netz".

The confusion , his first novel, appeared in 1993 and was awarded the book prize of the city of Zurich. From 1995 onwards he took advantage of various residency grants (Toronto, Philadelphia, etc.) and moved to Berlin after being awarded a five-month grant from the Berlin Senate at the Berlin Literary Colloquium . For his second novel The Passenger Ship (1995) he received the Swiss Schiller Foundation Prize . For his book of stories Die Forstarbeiter, die Lichtung (1996) he was awarded the Hermann Ganz Prize of the Swiss Writers' Association. He has received numerous grants (such as the grant from the Süddeutscher Rundfunk in the Stuttgarter Schriftstellerhaus , 1996; Akademie Schloss Solitude , Stuttgart, 1998; Schloss Wiepersdorf , 1998; New York grant from the Swiss cultural foundation Pro Helvetia , 2001) and prizes. Monioudis represented Switzerland at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 1998 (guest country Switzerland) and in 2001 Germany at the Salon du livre in Paris.

He read and taught at over a dozen universities each in the US and Europe. His reading tours have taken him to Egypt, Belgium, Brazil, France, Greece, Holland, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Croatia, Korea, Austria, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia, Syria, Turkey, Hungary and the USA. In 2005 he taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Mass.

Perikles Monioudis has lived in Zurich again since 2007 . From 2007 to 2013 he worked for the online editing and editing of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung . In the fall semester 2011/12 he was the first observer-in-residence at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) . Since 2013 he has been working for the world football association FIFA , where he is the editor-in-chief of FIFA magazine.

Perikles Monioudis has been married to the writer Dana Grigorcea since 2007 . The marriage resulted in two children. Monioudis is a member of the Swiss Society for Sociology, the MIT Radio Society and the Radio Society of Great Britain.
