Jim Curtin (born June 23, 1979 in Oreland, Pennsylvania ) is a retired American football player and current coach .

The defender spent most of his career with Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer . In 2009 he ended his career as a soccer player with Chivas USA .

Since 2014 he has coached the Philadelphia Union , who also play in Major League Soccer.

Player career

college

Curtin played college soccer from 1997 to 2000 at Villanova University in Radnor Township, PA a suburb of Philadelphia . In his freshman year, he was named the Big East Conference's Best Young Player . In the following years he was always appointed to the best selection at the conference.

Chicago Fire

Upon graduation, he was selected in the 2001 MLS SuperDraft in the third round of the Chicago Fire. He was the first soccer player from Villanova University to make the leap to Major League Soccer. In the following years he was in over 200 competitions for Chicago on the court. In 2003 and 2006 he won the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup with the team . He participated in the 2004 MLS Allstar game.

At the beginning of his first season he was loaned from Chicago to Milwaukee Rampage , who were then playing in the USL A-League . For Chicago he played 12 league games this season.

CD Chivas USA

On January 22nd, 2008 it was given to the CD Chivas USA. Two years later he was released from the team and shortly thereafter ended his career as a football player.

Coaching career

On November 29, 2012, Curtin was introduced as the Philadelphia Union's new assistant coach . Two years later, on November 7, 2014, he became the team's head coach. He previously worked as an interim trainer after John Hackworth was fired on June 10, 2014.
