Club career

Career start

Brenden Aaronson was born on October 22, 2000 to Janell and Rusty Aaronson in Medford Township, New Jersey, and grew up with his brother Paxten and sister Jayden on the Jersey Shore . As a child he started playing football in the basement or in the garden of his parents' house. From this time on he was trained mainly by his father, who is now a coach at the Real Jersey Football Club in Medford. He played at Medford Soccer Club for several years before his father founded the Real Jersey FC training club . At the age of 13, he made the leap into the youth department of the major league soccer franchise Philadelphia Union . At this point, he had just completed his freshman year at Shawnee High School in his hometown of Medford. He received his further education from the sophomore year at the YSC Academy in Wayne , Pennsylvania , a private high school that is specially geared towards the youth department of the Philadelphia Union and guarantees the young players an education in addition to the sport. In the early days he trained at the Philadelphia Union Academy and played his games for his father's organization before turning his focus entirely on the academy.

Already in the 2015/16 season he was a regular player in the U-15 / U-16 academy team of the Philadelphia Union, albeit not always from the start. In addition to 18 games (and two goals) in regular time, he also made two appearances in the play-offs at the end of the season in 2015/16. Due to his experience, he was already a regular player in the said team in the 2016/17 season and played 20 league games in the regular season, 17 of which he started from the start, and contributed six goals. There were also three missions and one goal in the final play-offs. In addition, the mostly offensively deployed midfielder was used in five championship games of the academy's U-17 / U-18 team.

First appearances in professional football

Around two and a half weeks after the end of the play-offs of the 2016/17 season, an academy coach from Philadelphia Union approached Aaronson, who was then 16 years old, and arranged a trial training session at Bethlehem Steel , the USL partner franchise of Philadelphia Union with games in the second rate United Soccer League . Since he was convincing in training, he was accepted by the coaches for the next game against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in the squad to gain more experience from the bench. However, since the central midfielder Chris Wingate failed due to an injury in the 39th minute, Aaronson came at 1: 1 home draw when he his team on 15 July 2017 at his pro debut of coach Brendan Burke in 42 minutes for the injured Norwegians substitute has been. Subsequently, Aaronson received a contract as an unpaid amateur with the USL franchise, which kept it open for him to study at a university after graduating from high school. As a paid professional, he would have been denied this opportunity. After that, he was often on the bench for Steel and made his second professional league appearance in August when he came on the pitch in a 1-0 away loss to Charlotte Independence for Anthony Fontana , with whom he played at the Philadelphia Union early on . Towards the end of the season, he played four more championship games (including a play-off game) in October 2017 and was used for the full duration for the first time. At the same time, he was already firmly anchored in the U-18 / U-19 team in 2017/18 and made 14 appearances in the regular season this season, all of which he was on the pitch from the start, with him also scored six goals.

In the game 2018 started Aaronson also with an amateur contract because he is in the course of this season for one of five preferred universities ( Indiana , Pittsburgh , Stanford , Georgetown and Wake Forest wanted to decide) Right from the beginning belonged Aaronson the squad, was sitting but mainly on the replacement and was deployed only twice briefly until mid-April 2018. He came back to the academy in order to gain match practice, where he appeared again as a regular in the U-18 / U-19 team. It was only three months later that he returned to the professional team and made another short assignment. From the 20th championship round Brendan Burke put him then mostly as a regular player in the midfield, where the 17-year-old in his first game over the full duration of a gate, and a draw at a 4: 1 home win over Atlanta United 2 contributed . Even after that, the playmaker often acted as a template provider and was used in all remaining games until the end of the season. After the first round in the play-offs of the 2017 game year, Bethlehem Steel made it to at least the second round in 2018, but was again defeated by Louisville City FC . Aaronson was also in action in these two games from the start. In total, he was used in 16 league games in 2017, scored one goal and made five assists; there are also the two play-off games mentioned. He also played six games for the U-18 / U-19 team in 2018/19, for which he scored five goals.

Change to Major League Soccer

After he had already given his verbal acceptance to Indiana University Bloomington in November 2017 and was ready to play for their successful men's soccer team in the renowned university sports department from 2019 , he turned down the university's offer in September 2018 and instead signed his first professional contract with the main Philadelphia Union franchise . With the franchise, he received a three-year contract starting with the 2019 game year .

National team career

Aaronson gained his first experience in a national team of the US Football Association in the US U-14 team . He was called up in September 2013 by the then U-14 national coach Tony Lepore. In March 2015, John Hackworth brought him to the U-15 national team of his home country for a training camp in Fort Lauderdale , Florida . In May 2015, he was one of 58 players participating in the Boys' National Team Futures Training Camp in Carson , California . Under John Hackworth, the then 14-year-old took part in a ten-day training camp in August 2015 with two international matches against his English colleagues in England . While he acted as a substitute in the 2-2 draw in the first leg, he was used from the start three days later in the subsequent 3-3 draw. Aaronson was also in the squad for the US U-15 national team for another training camp at the IMG Soccer Academy in Bradenton , Florida, at the beginning of November 2015 . Here he was used in three training games of the U-15 national team, which was divided into several teams and competed against each other. In the following year, 2016, Aaronson also managed to be called up to the U-17 national team of the United States .
