Jim Jeter

James E. "Jim" Jeter (born September 15, 1921 in Houston , Texas , USA ; † March 4, 2007 there ) was an American actor .

life and career

Jeter served in the U.S. Navy during World War II . After the war he started his film career under the name Jim Jeter. In 1965 he moved to Los Angeles and subsequently appeared in many films and TV series, predominantly in supporting roles. In the western television series Bonanza , he was seen in seven different roles from 1963 to 1972. Michael Landon , one of the leading actors from Bonanza , offered Jeter the role of Hans Dörfler, the blacksmith of Walnut Grove in Our Little House ( Little House on the Prairie) , probably in memory of his role as a blacksmith in the Bonanza episode Caution Easter Bunny ), which he embodied in nine episodes.

In 1967 Jeter played a small role in the Paul Newman film The Unbending ( Cool Hand Luke ) and in 1981 with John Travolta in the thriller Blow Out . In 1993 Jeter returned to his hometown and played a cellmate of Kevin Costner 's "Butch Haynes" in the road movie Perfect World .

In 1994, at the age of 73, Jeter married theater director Chris Wilson. He passed away in 2007.
