Jim Profit - A man walks over corpses (short: Jim Profit , original title: Profit ) is an American television series that was produced for the television station Fox . Only one season with eight episodes was shot, of which only the first four were broadcast on Fox. In Germany, the series was shown on Sat.1 in 1997 .

In retrospect, the series was ahead of its time. Years later, comparable series such as Breaking Bad , The Sopranos , The Shield - Law of Violence and Dexter could prove with great audience success that there is definitely a market for sophisticated drama series with devious, cunning protagonists.

action

The series tells the story of Jim Profit, an impeccably dressed sociopath with a voice like sandpaper, who uses ruthless methods to climb the corporate ladder at Gracen & Gracen, rung by rung. In the episodes of the series, the viewer accompanies Jim Profit as he sneakily and unscrupulously clears one rival after another out of the way. The protagonist doesn't stop at bribery, extortion, incest, kidnapping, identity theft and murder.

characters

Jim Profit

Jim Profit is the main character in the series. He was born as James "Jimmy" Stakowski and experienced a very stressful and traumatic childhood. As a child, on the orders of his physically and mentally violent father, he had to live in a Gracen & Gracen shipping box from which he could watch television through a peephole. Profit later takes revenge on his father and burns him alive, chained to his bed. Influenced by this upbringing, Profit developed a hatred of television. He also sees G & G as his ideal family, which means that even as a grown man he continues to sleep in one of the company's shipping boxes. He succeeds in finding work in the company. He initially worked in auditing before moving up to Junior Vice President Acquisitions; his declared goal is to become the sole head of the department.

background

The series was designed by David Greenwalt and John McNamara . They interpret their work as a modern implementation of Shakespeare's Richard III .

Although the series received critical acclaim, Fox discontinued it after only four episodes aired due to low viewership. Only eight episodes (including seven episodes with the usual length of 45 minutes in the USA, plus a two-hour pilot film) were produced. In some European countries, on the other hand, the complete series was shown, and it was particularly well received in France.
