Jind ( Hindi जींद Jīnd ) is a city ( Municipal Council ) in the north-west Indian state of Haryana .

The city is located in the Ganges plain at an altitude of 226  m 115 km northwest of the federal capital New Delhi . Jind is the administrative seat of the district of the same name . The city had 167,592 at the 2011 census. The Hindus make up the largest religious group in Jind with 96%.

The national highway NH 71 connects Jind with Sangrur, 110 km north-north-west, and Rohtak, 50 km south-east . Other highways lead to the larger cities in the area. The city of Jind is connected to India's rail network.

A tourist attraction in Jind is the Rani Talab lake with the Bhuteshwar temple inside. Jind is also home to the Jind Institute of Engineering and Technology (JIET) campus.

history

The city was briefly, between 1763 and 1776, the capital of the princely state of Jind .

The climate in Jind is known as the local steppe climate . Most of the rainfall occurs in the monsoon months of July, August and September. The average annual precipitation is 536 mm. The annual mean temperature is 24.9 ° C.
