Jirko Malchárek
Jirko Malchárek (born June 26, 1966 in Jeseník , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak car racing driver and politician . From October 4, 2005 to July 4, 2006, he was Minister of Economy and Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic.
Career in motorsport
Malchárek began his motorsport career in 1988 in touring car racing . From 1988 to 1990 he was active in the Czech touring car championship. From 1991 to 1994 he competed in the Czech Ford Fiesta Cup. He was second in 1992 and champion in 1994. Then he was in the Czech BMW Cup for two years. There he reached second place in 1995. After Malchárek had driven a season in the European Zone Championship in 1997, he competed in the Porsche Supercup from 1998 to 2000 .
In 2001 and 2002 Malchárek finally started in the FIA GT Championship in the NGT classification. In 2002 he was also a test driver for the Formula 1 team Minardi . Malchárek became the first Slovak to test a Formula 1 car.
After taking a break for several seasons, he took part in the European Ferrari Challenge in 2007. He finished 19th. After a further break for years, he competed in two races in the 2011 FIA GT3 European Championship .

Career in politics
Malchárek closed 1989 Engineering - studying at the Technical University in Bratislava Slovak from. He then worked from 1989 to 1992 in the Office of the Representative of the Slovak Government for the Automotive Industry . From 1993 to 1998 he was a private businessman.
In 1998, Malchárek was elected to the National Council of the Slovak Republic as a member of the Party of Civil Understanding (SOP - Strana občianskeho porozumenia ) . In 2002 he was re-elected to the National Council , this time for the Alliance of the New Citizen (ANO - Aliancia nového občana). In 2006 he ran for the NÁDEJ party , which did not become a member of the National Council.
On October 4, 2005, Malchárek became Minister of Economy of Slovakia. After the ruling coalition under Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda agreed on Malchárek as Minister of Economic Affairs, President Ivan Gašparovič delayed the appointment of Malchárek - officially for scheduling reasons - for a month. Gašparovič had previously questioned Malchárek's qualifications several times. Malchárek headed the Ministry of Economic Affairs until July 4, 2006. In addition, he was Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic during his time as Minister.
Gorilla affair
Malchárek is one of the main characters in the eavesdropping report " Gorila " of the Slovak secret service, published in late December 2011 , in which privatizations in the years 2005–6 and commissions for him are dealt with and which sparked a political scandal.
