Jiwaka has been a province in Papua New Guinea since May 2012 . The name is derived from the place names Jimi , Wahgi and Kambia . Jiwaka is also the name for the language of the local people. 341,928 inhabitants live in the 4,798 km² province (as of 2011). The capital is Minj.
history
The province was created by spinning off the South and North Wahgi and Middle and Upper Jimi from the Western Highlands Province .
language
Next to Melpa , Jiwaka is the largest language in the Western Highlands Province. It is spoken by around 30,000 to 60,000 people. The Waghi River separates the Melpa-speaking culture in the north from the Jiwaka-speaking people in the south. Another language of the district is Ek Nii .
