Frigate Captain João da Silva (born May 13, 1977 in Uaibobo , Viqueque , East Timor ), battle name Z Lima or Ulun Kiak , is an East Timorese officer in the Navy.

Career

Silva is the son of Lino Afonso da Silva and Teodora Parada. The couple had a total of two daughters and three sons. João was the youngest of the children. From 1987 to 1992 he attended Catholic Primary School No. 04 Santa Teresinha Ossu. Then the pre-secondary school of Eskola Katoliku Santa Teresinha from 1993 to 1995 and finally the secondary school of Eskola Cristal Dili from 1995 to 1998. In 2013 Silva received his diploma from the Universidade de Díli (UNDIL) from the Faculty of International Relations.

On February 2, 2001, Silva joined the East Timorese Defense Forces (F-FDTL) in Aileu . On June 21, 2001, he was made a lieutenant in the infantry. On December 16, 2005 he was promoted to captain of the infantry (Capitão), on February 2, 2011 to lieutenant captain of the navy and finally on August 20, 2017 to frigate captain. He received his military training in the infantry school in the Portuguese Mafra , with the Portuguese Navy in the Instituto Estudu Superiores, in the People's Republic of China , in Australia , in the Indonesian Lembaga Pertahanan Nasional (Lemhanas) and in Malaysia . In 2011 Silva was trained as a UN observer.

From 2002 to 2003 Silva was a trainer at the Nicolau Lobato training center in Metinaro . Until 2004 he served as an adjutant in Division J2 at the headquarters of the F-FDTL. In 2005 Silva was assigned to the Navy at the Nicolau Lobato training center. From October 24, 2012 to 2013, he was the Navy's Deputy Commander in Chief. Then Silva was the commander of the support unit (Componente Apoio Serviço CAS) until 2016 and head of organization of the staff of the Deputy Chief of Staff (Chefe do Estado-Maior General das Forças Armadas, CEMGFA) until 2017.

On July 15, 2019, Silva was appointed the new Commander in Chief of the East Timorese Navy (Commanding Officer Naval Component) . He took office on September 11, 2019.

Silva is married to Juliana Mascarenhas da Silva. The couple have two sons and two daughters.

Silva is the bearer of the Medalha Halibur .
