Jože Šlibar (born March 18, 1934 in Kovor , Tržič ) is a former Yugoslav ski jumper .

Career

Šlibar attended elementary school in his native town of Kovor, which he had to interrupt after a short time due to the Second World War . In 1945, after a kind of entrance examination, he was re-schooled in third grade at the age of 11. After completing primary school, he attended the advanced high school in Tržič . After school was closed for a long time during the winter, Šlibar bought his first skis with his savings. However, at that time he was working on his parents' farm and therefore had to hide his skis from his parents. In 1952, following the growing international interest in skiing, he was finally able to join a club and began training.

He was quickly able to assert himself in local and regional tournaments. Šlibar made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament in 1959/60 . After finishing the opening competition in Oberstdorf only on 35th place, he jumped on the Great Olympic Hill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen to the very good third place and thus for the first and only time on the podium during the tour. After further rather mixed results in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen , he finished the tour in 14th place overall.

On February 24, 1961, Šlibar jumped a new world record of 141 meters on the Heini-Klopfer ski jumping hill in Oberstdorf, which lasted two years.

On his last Four Hills Tournament in 1961/62 he was no longer able to jump into the top 20. The best result was rank 25 in Bischofshofen. In the overall standings, he was 558.4 points in the end in 55th place.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane in 1962 , Šlibar jumped from the large hill to 88 and 86 meters and thus reached 47th place. From the normal hill he landed at 62 and 64 meters and was 31st.

In 1963 he was one of the last jumpers to start at the Skakaonica Medvednica in Zagreb .

In 2012, Šlibar was inducted into the Slovenian Sports Hall of Fame.
