Joachim-Joseph d'Estaing de Saillans (* 1654 in Ravel ; † April 13, 1742 in Saint-Flour ) was Bishop of Saint-Flour from 1693 to 1742 .

Life

Joachim-Joseph d'Estaing was born in 1652 or 1654 at Ravel Castle ; he was the son of Jean d'Estaing, Marquis of Saillans, Lord of Ravel and Nechers, and the Claude de Combourcier du Terrail de Bayard. He was a member of the cathedral chapter of Lyon (with the title Count of Lyon) and prior of St. Irenaeus there. Appointed Bishop of Saint-Flour in 1693 , he was consecrated on January 3, 1694 in the chapel of the Jesuit novitiate in Paris . He soon went to his diocese , but, unlike his predecessor La Mothe, stayed there only a little. Besieged in his residence in 1709 as a result of a famine caused by a bad harvest , he was forced to retreat to Saillans Castle for a while. In 1715 he was one of the chairmen of the French National Council.

Bishop Estaing died on April 13, 1742 as doyen of the French episcopate .
