Joachim Cureus , also: Curäus, Scheer (born October 23, 1532 in Freystadt , † January 21, 1573 in Glogau ) was a German theological writer, historian and physician.

Life

Born as the son of the cloth maker and city judge Georg Scheer and his wife Magaratha, he attended the school in his hometown from 1539 and changed school in Goldberg in 1548. Having been trained in this way by Valentin Friedland , he enrolled at the University of Wittenberg on March 8, 1550 , he was a pupil of Philipp Melanchthon and on July 31, 1554, under Caspar Peucer, he obtained the academic degree of a master's degree.

He then became a teacher at the city school in Freystadt and studied medicine. To do this, he went to the University of Padua and the University of Bologna , where he received his doctorate in medicine on September 10, 1558 . After he had completed his studies, he returned to his homeland in Glogau in 1559 , where he became city counsel. During his time in Glogau he gained fame when he made a significant contribution to the implementation of the Reformation in 1564.

At that time he was in close contact with the great Wittenbergers who would have liked to offer him a professorship at the university, but he declined this as well as offers from Szczecin, Breslau and other cities. It was not until 1572 that he accepted a call to the court of Duke Georg von Liegnitz in Brieg . He died of a stroke at a trial.

His writing Exegesis perspicua on the doctrine of the Lord's Supper had the most significant effect, which led to the persecution of the Philippists as crypto-calvinists by the Gnesiolutherans under Elector August of Saxony in Electoral Saxony . Likewise, his Gentis Silesise annales , in which he deals with the history of Silesia, has been revised several times.
