Joachim Freyer (born April 18, 1908 in Bunzlau ; † May 26, 1998 ) was a German officer , most recently major general in the Bundeswehr .

Life

Joachim Freyer joined the Reichswehr in 1928 . In 1938 and 1939 he attended the War Academy and from 1940 to 1943 he was employed in staff positions in various armored units of the Wehrmacht . So from June 1942 he served with the rank of major as First General Staff Officer (Ia) of the 23rd Panzer Division . He formed his own combat group, which, as Freyer's combat group of approx. 800 men, formed a bridgehead near Dsuarikau and participated in the conquest of Krassnyi Skotowod. He then served as Colonel i. G. on the staff of the Inspector General of the Panzer Troops Guderian and was department head there until the end of the war.

Shortly after the war, like Hermann Hoth , Bogislaw von Bonin and Werner Panitzki , he was against working with the American military. From 1948 to 1951 he was managing director of the Bavarian Red Cross. In April 1951 Freyer was accepted into the Blank Office and formed the first military department together with other military personnel, such as Ulrich de Maizière . From 1951 to the dissolution of the office in 1955 he was deputy head of subdivision II / 4 military planning of the office Blank in Bonn . Head of the subdivision was Bogislaw von Bonin. From 1953 he was also head of the Army Group in sub-division II / 4.

In 1955 he resigned from the Blank office, was accepted into the German armed forces and promoted to brigadier general. For two years he was the first German delegate to the NATO staff, Allied Forces Central Europe, in Fontainebleau . Until 1961 he was deputy division commander of the 3rd Panzer Division . From October 1961 until his retirement he was General of the Technical Troops in the Troop Office . In 1965 he was promoted to major general. At the end of September 1968, he left the Bundeswehr.

After his active service, he worked for the Saar industrial works, which processed maintenance orders for the German armed forces.
