The ship was built in Regensburg in 1960 and sailed under the name Rottach on the Tegernsee until 2001 . It was then used on Lake Starnberg after it had been renamed by Diethild Buchheim and given a figurehead by Karl-Heinz Richter . This bow figure represents "a Bavaria in flight pose like Kate Winslet in the movie Titanic , but fuller, lightly clad in a tight white-blue diamond apron - and without Leonardo DiCaprio ", it said in a press report. After 17 years on Lake Starnberg, the Buchheim Foundation took over the ship from Bayerische Seenschifffahrt . It was set up in the museum park and is to be used as a painting school from 2020.
The ship, which was equipped with pictures and exhibits related to Lothar-Günther Buchheim , had mainly served the museum line to Bernried on Lake Starnberg, but was most recently in the Starnberg harbor. The fact that it was only used sporadically was due to some age-related defects, its small size and the lack of accessibility.
