Joachim Giers

Joachim Giers (born June 4, 1911 in Berlin , † November 28, 1996 in Munich ) was a Catholic social scientist and moral theologian .

Life

Joachim Giers studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the University of Breslau and received the sacrament of ordination in 1932 . He initially worked as a chaplain in Berlin , then studied moral theology with Theodor Müncker at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . In 1939 he was awarded the title of Dr. with a thesis on the doctrine of justice of Cardinal Thomas de Vio (“Thomas Cajetan”). theol. " PhD . From 1940 to 1942 he was chaplain at St. Hedwig's Cathedral in Berlin, from 1942 military service. After the war he worked again as a chaplain in Berlin. In 1955 he completed his habilitation in Freiburg with a work on Franz Suarez .

Since 1953 as a visiting professor, he received in 1955 a reputation as professor of moral theology and ethics at the Philosophical-Theological Seminary in Erfurt . From 1963 to 1979, as the successor to Nikolaus Monzel, he held the chair for Christian social teaching and general sociology of religion at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

Since 1930 he was a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Marchia (Breslau) to Aachen in the Cartell Association (CV) .
