Joachim Hahn (veterinarian)
Joachim Hahn (born December 11, 1924 in the Ostprignitz district (Brandenburg); † August 21, 2019 in Hanover ) was a German veterinarian, specialist in reproductive medicine and professor at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hanover .
Live and act
Joachim Hahn studied veterinary medicine at the Humboldt University in Berlin . After receiving his doctorate, he moved to the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover , where he completed his habilitation in 1966. After studying in the USA, he took over the management of the experimental reproductive biology department in Hanover and was appointed professor.
The focus of his scientific work was on research into the development and application of new biotechnological methods in reproductive medicine, which led to over 200 publications, 10 book chapters and 70 doctoral theses.
In 1992 Joachim Hahn retired, but founded the Joachim and Irene Hahn Foundation together with his wife Irene in order to continue to promote scientific work in the field of reproductive medicine at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences. Hahn died in Hanover in 2019.

Appreciation
Hahn influenced the introduction of embryo transfer and the associated techniques in cattle as breeding measures far beyond Germany's borders. He never failed to point out the basics of the economic, ethical and social requirements for embryo transfer.
