Joachim Leopold von Bredow (1699–1759)

Joachim Leopold von Bredow (born October 10, 1699 , † June 12, 1759 in Dresden ) was a royal Prussian major general, knight of the Order of St. John and heir to Bredow , Marke, Schwanebeck and Werniß.

He was the son of Otto Ludwig von Bredow (* May 8, 1659 - May 9, 1720) and Thoma Lucia von Grote (* June 28, 1668 - October 13, 1724). She was the daughter of Thomas Grote (1625–1668) Domdechant von Havelberg .

Life

He was first taught by private tutors and then came to the Brandenburg Knight Academy. Then he attended high school in Jena. In 1719 he went into Prussian service and came to the regiment (Anhalt) and became an ensign on July 2, 1720. On September 20, 1723 he became a lieutenant and was sent on publicity. So he could travel all over the empire as well as Holland and Switzerland. In 1734 he was part of the Rhine campaign against the French. On October 1, 1736, he became staff captain and on December 17, 1736, he got his own company. On June 20, 1738 he was accepted into the Order of St. John. In 1741 he was sent to the camp near Brandenburg and on 16.1743 he was promoted to major. In the second Silesian War he took part in the battles of Hohenfriedberg , Soor and Kesselsdorf . In 1748 he was awarded the Pour le Mérite for this. On June 13, 1751 he became lieutenant colonel and on September 19, 1753 colonel. In May 1753 he was appointed governor of Driesen . He was then supposed to take command of the Margrave Heinrich regiment, which he refused. In 1756 he was sent to the court of Anhalt-Bernburg . In the Seven Years' War he was in the Battle of Prague and the Battle of Kolin . He was badly wounded near Kolin. So he was no longer at the front in the battle of Rossbach , but organized supplies for the troops from Merseburg . On January 21st, 1758 he got the Infantry Regiment No. 43 (Kalkreuth) and on March 6th he was major general. On March 17, 1759 he fell seriously ill in Dresden and died of this disease on June 12, 1759.

He was buried in the Dresden Frauenkirche .

He was married to Helene Margarethe Rejall in 1734 and had children.
