Joachim Vogel (cyclist)

Joachim Vogel (born January 12, 1954 in Frankenberg ) is a former German cyclist and GDR cycling champion .

Athletic career

Vogel began cycling in 1968 at BSG Motor Hainichen , where Klaus Pedd was his first trainer. In November 1971 he was delegated to SC Karl-Marx-Stadt . He was considered a specialist in time trial competitions . In 1973 he was appointed to the national team and was able to achieve two victories in Poland and Belgium in the team time trial with the GDR team . He won the GDR championship in 1975, 1976 and 1980 in the team time trial on the road with his club.

In 1976 Vogel won the first edition of the Tour of Thuringia and was third in the Tour of Poland . A year later he was second in the GDR tour . In 1978 he won the Dynamo Cup. In 1980 and 1981 he was able to win one stage of the Tour of Cuba . He started once in the International Peace Tour, in 1979 he finished 63rd in the final ranking. In 1982 he ended his career.

Professional

Vogel completed a sports degree and worked as a sports teacher for a while.
