Joan Vilà i Moncau (* 1924 in Vic , Osona , Catalonia , Spain ; † September 16, 2013 , Olot ) was a contemporary Catalan painter.

Vilà was trained as a painter at the Llotja barcelonina (Barcelona Lodge) in Vic and at the École du Louvre in Paris . He devoted himself to wall painting and created numerous works in Vic, Olot , la Seu d'Urgell and Ripoll . He participated frequently in the May and October salons (regular exhibitions) in Barcelona in the 1980s . He often exhibited his works as a member of the artist group “Grup dels Vuit” (Group of Eight) but also in important individual exhibitions in Sabadell (1957), Madrid (1962), Vic (1962 and 1964), Barcelona (1967 and 1975) and Figueres (1974) from. From 1970 bis 1984 led Vilà i Moncau the Academy of Art in Olot . His style represents a modernization of true realism. Thematically, he concentrated particularly on the rendering of “urban landscapes”. In 1991 Vilà i Moncau received the Georgskreuz (Premi Creu de Sant Jordi) from the Catalan government for outstanding cultural achievements.
