Joannie Rochette (born January 13, 1986 in Montreal , Québec ) is a Canadian figure skater who starts in a single run .

Joannie Rochette began figure skating at the age of six at the CPA Berthierville ice skating club. Her trainer is Manon Perron , her choreographers are Shae-Lynn Bourne and Lori Nichol . In 2003 she made her debut at world championships . In 2005 she became Canadian champion for the first time ; she defended this title until 2010. At her first Olympic Games she finished fifth in 2006 in Turin . In 2007 she was third on the podium of the four continents championships for the first time . In 2008 and 2009 she won the silver medal there. In 2009 Rochette also won her first medal at world championships with silver in Los Angeles . At the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver , she won the bronze medal in front of a home crowd. Two days before the start of the competition, Rochette's mother Thérèse had died of a heart attack shortly after arriving at the age of 55 . Rochette has not contested a competition since the Olympic Games.
